The mountains of Arkadia feature several picturesque villages that are popular weekend destinations (like Dimitsana and Stemnitsa), but you can also find very pretty villages that have yet to be discovered. The village of Isari, for instance, is totally off the beaten track, and has a pleasantly laid-back and authentic feel to it.
Archontiko Isari is a 150-years-old farmhouse that was recently renovated and converted into a small guesthouse. It is set in a quiet spot, in a garden, with a sweeping vista over the mountain and hilltops all the way to the Messiniakos Gulf. Inside, it is cosy and homey, with an inviting sitting room on the ground floor and bedrooms spread over two floors. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated (warm colours, country-style and antique furniture), and, even though most are on the small side, they are wonderful ‘cocoons’ to snuggle up in bed with a good book on a cold winter day. The rooms on the top floor, set under the sloping roof, are particularly cosy, but as the windows are small, you don't get much of a view. If you come with children, especially in the summer, it is not a bad idea to ask for rooms on the ground floor, which have direct access into the garden.
Service is very friendly. In the morning get a good breakfast with several types of bread, pies, ham, yogurt, cake and biscuits, eggs on order and freshly squeezed orange juice. In the evening it is possible to have a hearty, home cooked dinner with dishes like fasolada (white bean soup) and traditionally cooked meat, but make sure to ask for it in advance.

* "This part of the holiday was the best"
We enjoyed our stay in Isari. We loved the quiet rural atmosphere very much and especially the agnificent view of over 180 degrees, during breakfast. The breakfast was very good. All fresh and every morning an ther home madespecialty. The whole hotel is very clean and all rooms have their own look. The only less wonderful thing is the fact that the hotel is on a rather high mountain. This gives the nice view but the problem is that, as the hotel does not offer dinner, we were bound to the *only* restaurant in the village, which didn't offer the flexibility in the menu we and the kids would have liked to see. The next restaurant was a 45 minute drive by car. When having enjoyed breakfast at this standard, we would like the dinners at the hotel too. For me personally, this part of the holiday was the best, and I'd certainly recommend this hotel to others, though I would warn them for the restaurant issue.
