Monemvasia is a small medieval city built beneath a ruined fortress. It is spectacularly located on a rock in the sea that is connected to the mainland via a long and narrow causeway. Hotel Byzantino is set within the walls of the fortified city, on the main cobbled lane close to the central square. It consists of several old, impeccably restored stone houses, and a cute little café where you can have breakfast (which can also be brought to your room), drinks and snacks.

Once you are in your room, you will soon forget that you are in a hotel. After all, you are staying in an old house, all the vintage elements of which were left intact. During the restoration work, the character of every room has been preserved as much as possible, and your room, while offering all necessary comfort, will be nothing like that of a conventional hotel. No two rooms are alike. Some are quite grand (especially the rooms in the most recently restored house, the Hammam), others are more traditional or (nicely) old-fashioned in style. Views vary: some rooms look over the rooftops out to the sea, others have a view of the Kastro. Bathrooms range from absolutely tiny to quite large. Some rooms have space to sit out, others don't. But, furnished with antiques and decorated, all rooms are full of character and they ooze charm.

How to get there
Walk into the Kastro, following the main street. When you reach the little town square, you will see the reception of Hotel Byzantino on your left.

Activities
You will enjoy wondering around in theKastro and taking in the Medieval atmosphere. Do visit the ruined Byzantine castle on top of the rock. If you stay longer than a couple of nights, you can make excursions to the mountains, or day trips to Mystras and the island of Elafonisos, famous for its great sandy beaches.
