Amfiklia is just a short drive away from the popular ski resort of Parnassos, and yet, even during the most perfect powder snow/blue sky winter weekend, there is not much of a crowd. This is not because it lacks charm. It is just that Arahova, situated on the opposite side of the mountain, is considered the place-to-be for all those trendy skiers, while most people have yet to discover Amfiklia.
Even so, Kiriaki Deligeorgi has no trouble filling up her guesthouse right at the top of the village. The building is an exact reconstruction of the dilapidated house that Kiriaki’s family had bought some ten years ago, but that turned out to be beyond repair. While respecting tradition, the way the house was rebuilt was not an attempt to create an illusion of age. This is particularly apparent inside, where walls are painted in pastel colours, wooden floors are left untreated and traditional furniture is mixed with contemporary items. The result is atmospheric, and probably far lighter and airier than the original house ever was. The bedrooms, especially the triples, are comfortable and well-proportioned and bathrooms are impeccable. In the sitting/dining room sofas and fauteuils flank an open fireplace.
Breakfast in the guesthouse is really good. There is a well-assorted buffet (including a choice of fresh juices and excellent homemade pies) and the grand finale, a scrumptious pancake with fruits, is brought to your table.
Your experiences
* "A lovely experience"
We drove west to Olympia, briefly visited there and then drove north thru Patra across the new bridge and then the very slow route thru Delfi and on to Amflikia. Not a sane route for one day, and we had a late start, so leaving Olympia at 6pm we arrived very late at Amflikea. On the one not-too detailed map I had of that area (everywhere else we had great maps) what appeared reasonable and direct turned into a terrible night drive. Thankfully, the excellent staff at the Kyriaki stayed up for us and talked us through the roads. We discovered that we had chosen a route that took us up and over Mt. Parnasus (at 11 pm, as we had made terrible time once we crossed the bridge due to the truck traffic and single lane road). Still, the Kiriaki was a lovely experience and we wish we had been more able to enjoy it. All of that pain was our own doing, it just seemed reasonable when we made our plans and I wish I had checked with you!

Activities
Amfiklia is a quiet village, visited by people looking for peace and calm. Your first impression of Amfiklia may be that there can’t be all that much happening, and that you’ll mainly be relaxing by the pool (or fireplace) of the guesthouse. But the surroundings are great for outdoor activities like hiking and mountain biking, and in the winter you can go skiing in the nearby Parnassos Ski Centre (see also ski holidays offer at the bottom of this page). A great day-trip to make is to drive to the Vagonetto – Fokis Mining Park for a guided tour in the old mining shafts, continue to the ancient site of Delphi and its museum, and make a final stop in the lively mountain town of Arachova, before crossing back over to mountain to Amfiklia.
At the top of a quiet, mountain village with beautiful views over the valley.
