George and Markella Papaevangelou have found one of the best sites imaginable for their guesthouse in Megalo Papingo. It is at the end of an unpaved road after the last house of the village, where you are surrounded by nature, though still just a five-minute walk from the village centre. It is an extremely quiet spot with stunning views of Mount Gamila.

The guesthouse consists of several stone houses that were built from scratch using only natural and old materials, and they blend in flawlessly with their surroundings. Spread over two floors in the main house, the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. They are fashioned in a no-frills, traditional style with wood floors and ceilings and built-in beds, and several have a fireplace. If you stay for more than just a couple of nights, you should ask for one of the studios, which are particularly large and open directly to the terraces. They have a dining corner (there's no full kitchen but you can prepare a snack). 

The spacious sitting room is in a separate house. Wooden floors, bare stone walls and a big fireplace create a particularly warm atmosphere. This is where George, with the help of his mother and Markella, serves sumptuous breakfasts with fresh juice, eggs, cheese, savoury pies, homemade jams, yoghurt with honey, cakes and rice pudding. He brings it all to your table and won’t let you go until he is sure you have eaten enough.

How to get there
From Ioannina take the road towards Konitsa. After about 40 km turn right in the direction of Aristi and Papingo. When you enter Megalo Papingo, go straight until the road forks (there is a small church on your left). Stick to the right until you reach a tiny square, and then turn left into an unpaved road. You will find the guesthouse on your right.
