Edessa is a lively town in northern Greece, located on the edge of a more than 300 metres-high plateau. It is known for its spectacular waterfalls (right in the centre of town!) which have developed into quite a tourist attraction. Close to the falls is the historical district of Edessa. Among the traditional stone buildings, one soft-coloured house really stands out. It is Hotel Varosi, a small, family-run hotel with only eight bedrooms.
Inside, the house has a warm and cosy feel. The style is traditional, but it has an unmistakably feminine touch to it. The bedrooms, for instance, are all painted in soft shades. They are not big, but ever so romantic, with antique brass beds topped by embroidered sheets and pillowcases, and overlaid with soft, velvety blankets.
There are two sitting rooms - one on the first floor that is decorated in a colourful traditional style and another on the ground floor - a truly intimate space with bare stone and soft blue walls. It has a snug sitting corner by the fire and a few wooden tables where in the morning you will be served a rich breakfast by Anastasia Salachora, the radiant hostess, and her two gorgeous daughters. And as you will discover, there is no reason to worry about a few extra calories when you stay in Edessa, because there are plenty of ways to lose them again.

* "A joy to visit again"
The service you've provided for my stay in Edessa was excellent. Prompt reaction on my mail, driving directions and info about the city wich I appreciate very much, although it was not the first time I've been to Edessa. The hotel Varosi was a joy to visit again. Very friendly owners who make the guest feel at home right from the start, well kept rooms, a breakfast to die for. I will definitly recommend both the hotel and your service to anyone who travels to Edessa or Greece in general. I hope to able to do business again soon. Ευχαριστώ πολή και καλός χειμώνας. With kind regards

* "Delighted…"
My wife and I were delighted over our (short) stay at the Varosi Hotel in Edessa: friendly welcome, beautiful location, cleanness, charm and... great breakfast - to be recommended. At the same time, your services were fully professional. I particularly appreciated the secure way you were dealing with the credit card pre- and payment. Both your network and your internet services are recommendation worthy.

* "Very quaint"
We loved our stay at the Varosi Hotel in Edessa. The hotel is very quaint and has lots of character. Our pretty room with its shuttered windows was clean, comfortable and had private facilities. We were made to feel very welcome by the family and very much at home. Breakfast in the morning was impossibly generous, including juice, thick Greek yogurt, eggs, fresh bread, piles of pastries, toasted sandwiches and endless pots of coffee. The hotel is in an excellent position in the heart of the old district. We could easily walk to the waterfalls, Edessa's main attraction and to the main shopping area, restaurants and cafes. Edessa is a pretty town overlooking the Thessaloniki plains. There is a small archaeological site down on the plains, also within walking distance of the hotel- the entry is free. The much larger and more famous site of ancient Pella is about an hour's drive. The streets around the hotel are narrow and cobbled but it was possible to park our hire car safely very close by. I would recommend this charming hotel to anyone looking for a taste of traditional Greece - but with all the comforts of home.

How to get there
Hotel Varosi is in a narrow street behind the sport's stadium in the centre of Edessa, which you will find if you follow signs for the waterfall. One way to get to the hotel is to take a right at the stadium and then left twice, and you will see a sign for the hotel. But you can also park your car at the waterfalls and walk past the falls to Arhiereos Meletiou Street.
Activities
The first thing to check out is the impressive waterfall park of Edessa, and take its cliff-side elevator down to the old rope-weaving factory, now a trendy bar/restaurant. But Edessa is also 'nature sports central', and not far from town you can go kayaking, rafting, mountain biking, parapenting, mountain climbing and horse-riding. And a bit further you will find three small ski resorts.
In a quiet street in the old district of Edessa.
