Veneto is an oasis in the heart of Rethymno. The 700 year old, Venetian Monastery was given to Prokopakis Family by the Greek Government, in recognition of Emmanuel Prokopakis' heroic contribution to liberation of the country.

Cretans are world famous for their hospitality and in 1997 the historic building was converted to a hotel. The family’s vision is to blend traditional Cretan hospitality with mellow luxury lodging. The result is a rare heaven of tranquillity and elegance in the heart of the Old Town of Rethymno, right next to the commercial area, the museums, the beach and the numerous cafes, restaurants and nightclubs.

The entrance is towered over a mosaic arch of the 1st Venetian Era, witness of the age of the building. Right beside it, the imposing stone staircase that leads to the upper floors emerges from a unique pebble floor with elaborate patterns. In the second and third floor are 10 charming studios and suites. The rooms, each of which has its own distinct personality, are generously sized and tasteful decorated between traditional and modern style.

On the ground floor and garden yard of the hotel you can enjoy Cretan, Greek and creative cuisine in one of the most famous restaurants in Crete. The organisation of the restaurant is supervised by the owner himself, who is a member of the Academy of Wine and Taste. Also on the ground floor there is a stone cellar with a standard temperature of 18-20 degrees, which is ideal for preserving in the right conditions one of the most remarkable wine collections on the island.

How to get there
Follow the national road between Iraklion and Rethymno. Turn off at Atsipopoulo exit and follow the signs for the Venetian Port. After having passed the port you’ll find yourself on Arkadiou street and then extends the Xanthoudidou alley. You should park your car in the parking as from now on, no vehicles are allowed; only pedestrians.

Wine tasting in the Cellar of Veneto Hotel as over 150 labels in number, are kept in ideal temperature, humidity and light conditions. Additionally many outdoor activities, extreme sports or easy going excursions, could be organized.
