With only three rooms, Xenon Apollonos is by far the smallest, but also one of the most amazing guesthouses in Greece. The owners are both interior designers and they have turned this old family property located just a few minutes’ walk from the main square of Ermoupolis into the ultimate, tiny outpost of style.

The guesthouse is part of a larger early 19th century building which enjoys a magnificent setting on the rocks right above the sea. Two of its bedrooms overlook the water. It is a wonderful experience to fall asleep to the sound of the waves washing against the rocks. The third bedroom faces the inner courtyard and has a particularly intimate feel to it. All three bedrooms, as well as the shared spaces (a large sitting room opening to a small balcony over the sparkling water and a bar/breakfast room) are extremely tastefully styled and inviting. Thoughtfully chosen colour schemes, a mixture of antiques and comfortable modern furniture, and utterly stylish decoration make Xenon Apollonos the kind of place you find in interior decorating magazines.

It is not only the spot-on décor, however, that makes this little guesthouse so great. It is also the homely, warm-hearted atmosphere and good service. You can have your breakfast wherever and (almost) whenever you want, and throughout the day there is someone in the guesthouse to prepare drinks or small snacks. Unlike most island hotels, Xenon Apollonos stays open all year round and if you ever want to experience a Greek island during the winter, this is the perfect place to stay.

How to get there
From Miaouli Square (the main square of Ermoupolis), facing the town hall, turn right at G. Souri Street. Turn left at Tsiropina Square into Apollonos Street, and you will find the guesthouse on your right after about 30 metres.

Syros is an all-year-round destination. The island features nice beaches, and is great for walking, but in town you can also enjoy a performance in the splendid Apollon theatre, visit the Archaeological and Industrial Museums and, of course, discover the impressive architecture.
