Yoga

Yoga is a complete science of life that originated in India many thousands of years ago. It is the oldest system of personal development in the world encompassing the entire body, mind and spirit. The science of yoga has developed a vast amount of techniques which all lead to the same point of unification of the mind-body-spirit.

What we commonly call yoga in the west is technically Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga came from the words "ha" which means "sun" and "tha" which means "moon", referring to the union that this technique brings to the positive (sun) and negative (moon) currents in the system. Hatha Yoga attains the union of mind-body-spirit though a practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (yoga breathing). When you practice postures, you are strengthening the body. When you control your breathing, you are creating a chemical and emotional balance.

A regular practice of yoga builds strength, flexibility, self-esteem, discipline, concentration and focus.  Yoga improves mood and tones the body. For some people, it is simply a class to take where they get a good stretch and a nice balanced work out.  For others, it is a way of life. In any case yoga is about union of yourself and the world around you, it’s about releasing tension in the body and the mind, relaxing, and bringing the mind to stillness so you can listen to your heart, so you can learn and grow.

Benefits from pracitcing Yoga

Relaxation

Yoga exercises, such as gentle stretching, breathing, meditation and guided relaxation, release body tension and calm the nervous system and emotions.

Concentration

Focus, attention and concentration are promoted by a yoga practice of mindful movement and body awareness. The practice of balancing postures, in particular, builds concentration.

Toning

Holding yoga postures creates isometric exercise which tones every part of the body, including the internal organs.

Healing

Yoga exercises the glands, organs and endocrine system, massaging, toning and increasing circulation to stimulate, heal, and eliminate toxins from the body.

Flexibility

Yoga postures gently stretch the muscles in the body, increasing the flexibility and lengthening the muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Nourishing

Slow, gentle movements with deep breathing energize the body rather than tire it. This, in combination with yoga’s relaxation and healing benefits, allows daily renewal and nourishment of the body-mind-spirit.

Yoga in Greece

Yoga courses are conducted in many resorts, centres, gyms and private classes throughout Greece. Each yoga teacher may use a different approach for conducting a yoga class, thus it is important for you to feel comfortable with his/her way of teaching in order to benefit from the exercises and get all the positive results from the asana practice.

Ashtanga yoga

We also cooperate with two ashtanga yoga teachers. Ashtanga yoga involves a synchronisation of the breath with progressive series of postures, a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying transpiration that detoxifies muscles and organs, leading to better circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.
